Fort Sill Apache Tribe opens eatery at casino site

printer friendly
The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma on Monday opened an eatery and a smokeshop at its casino site in southern New Mexico.

The Apache Homelands Snack Bar is open 24 hours. It's one of the few options for dining in Akela, a town about 20 miles east of Deming.

The tribe eventually hopes to engage in Class II gaming at the 6,000-square-foot facility. The National Indian Gaming Commission has not made a determination on whether a casino would be legal at the 30-acre site, which was taken into trust in 2002.
