BIA law enforcement official returns to South Dakota

The former head of law enforcement services for the Bureau of Indian Affairs is being transferred to his home state of South Dakota.
Bob Ecoffey volunteered for reassignment, the BIA said. The agency would not say why he offered, though the transfer comes amid an investigation into deaths and poor conditions at Indian Country detention centers.
Ecoffey will now serve as deputy regional director for Indian services for the Great Plains region.
Walt Lamar has been appointed to head BIA law enforcement in an acting capacity.
