Group claims tribe's recognition will hurt community

A new group that claims a growing membership says federal recognition for the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation will hurt the community.
Town Action to Save Kent (TASK) says recognition will lead to a casino, crime, traffic, decreased tax revenues and fewer businesses.
The group was formed after the tribe won recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The tribe doesn't plan on opening a casino in the Kent area, where its reservation is located.
The town of Kent is joining the state in challenging the BIA's favorable decision. According to The Harlem Valley Times, the town is spending $300,000 to appeal.
