Reid to succeed Daschle as Senate minority leader

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada), a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, will be named the Senate minority leader by the Democrats today.
Reid, 64, has drawn controversy for pushing a bill to distribute a $130 million trust fund to members of the Western Shoshone Nation. Tribal activists and some Shoshone leaders say they won't accept money for land they never sold. The bill was signed into law this year.
In the past, Reid has used his position on the Indian Affairs committee to hold up gaming bills. This year he blocked a bill that would have restricted states from taking revenues from tribal casinos.
