"American Indian elders say that when a good man passes over, the universe trembles a little, and there’s change in the air. It is the spirits escorting the person to the other world — the spirits will be among us for a while, they say.

The universe trembled a little Wednesday when Tom Clifford passed on.

Many tribal members in the area say Clifford was a good man. They remember him as someone who listened to American Indian needs and responded.

Clifford touched a great many people."
