Narragansett Tribe plans land-into-trust protest

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is holding a protest on March 21 against the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar.

The court said the tribe can't benefit from the land-into-trust process because it wasn't "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934. Tribal leaders have called the decision discriminatory.

“Everybody’s concerned,” Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas told The Westerly Sun. He said he spoke to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar about the decision.

The march is scheduled for 11am in Providence.
