Tribes to protest against land-into-trust decision

The Narragansett Tribe, the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation will take part in a protest tomorrow against the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar.

The “March for Justice" takes place at 11am at the Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island. It will proceed to the state House.

The court ruled that tribes that were not "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934 can't follow the land-into-trust process of the Indian Reorganization Act. The Narragansett, Mohegan and Mashantucket tribes didn't gain recognition until the 1980s and the 1990s.
