Churchill wants $1M unless university reinstates him
Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Ward Churchill plans to ask a judge for more than $1 million unless he is reinstated by the University of Colorado.

Churchill won his wrongful termination lawsuit last week. A jury said he was fired for writing a controversial essay about the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and not for research misconduct or plagiarism.

The jury awarded Churchill $1 in damages but he says his only goal is to get his job back as an ethnic studies professor. If he can't return to work, he wants CU to pay his $110,000 annual salary for 10 years.

Churchill has claimed Cherokee and Creek heritage but is not enrolled in a federally recognized tribe.
