University vows fight over Ward Churchill

The
University of Colorado will oppose attempts by
Ward Churchill to get his job back as an ethnic studies professor.
CU stands by its decision to fire Churchill for research misconduct and plagiarism. A panel said he fabricated information about the spread of smallpox among American Indians.
But a jury said Churchill was really fired because he wrote a controversial essay about the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He was awarded $1 in damages in his wrongful termination lawsuit.
Churchill says he will ask for $1 million if he can't get his job back. Students and faculty are divided over his potential return, The New York Times reported.
"The guy is a liar," one professor said. But another professor took a different view: "I would welcome his return to campus."
