Alaska Native corporation worried about probe
Wednesday, May 20, 2009

An Alaska Native corporation is cooperating with a Senate investigation but an executive worries it could hurt business.

Gary Droubay, the CEO of Goldbelt Inc, said corporations want to convince Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) and other lawmakers of the successes of Native contracting. Goldbray, which represents urban Natives, took in $105 million last year, most of it from government work.

"We're carrying a message about who we are, how it works and who benefits," Droubay told The Juneau Empire.

McCaskill, the chair of the Senate Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight, asked for detailed information from Native corporations in preparation for a July 16 hearing.
