Jodi Rave: Indian leaders oppose Churchill rehiring

"To those following the Ward Churchill case:

Affidavits were filed last week by several prominent Native people and scholars in objection to the possible rehiring of former professor Ward Churchill at the University of Colorado-Boulder. CU is where I earned a journalism degree. And Churchill is a former professor of mine. I’ve written several columns about Churchill since 1993. He’s been in the news the past several years since he was fired from CU. Churchill’s future now rests with a Denver judge who must decide if CU should rehire him after a jury determined he was wrongfully terminated. The jury linked the dismissal to a controversial essay written about victims who died in the World Trade Center bombings in New York.

As the judge mulls over his decision to reinstate, or not, at least nine people have submitted affidavits to the court stating opinions on why Churchill should not be allowed to return to CU. School officials also weighed in with a lengthy brief last week in opposition to his possible rehiring."
