Jobs stay local under Alaska Native ownership

An Alaska Native regional corporation is making sure jobs stay local in Texas.
Bristol Bay Native Corp. entered the state in 2001 with the purchase of a technology company. The corporation has since purchased and created several more businesses in the state to focus on federal government contracting.
"They are growing. Their advantage is they are an Alaskan native company," Joe Diaz, a business owner who is working with BBNC, told The El Paso Times.
"They are leveraging the Alaskan native advantage to build a high-tech company in El Paso."
One of the more successful BBNC subsidiaries is
Glacier Technologies. In 2005, the company had just two employees. Now it has about 200 and expects to add another 100 jobs in Texas by the end of the year.
"Our goal is to be a company with 1,000 employees and $100 million," CEO Bobby Trumbla told the Times.
BBNC plans to create more companies in Texas in order to take advantage of small business preferences in government contracting.
