The FBI is investigating the death of a Roman Catholic nun on the Navajo Nation.

Authorities say Sister Marguerite Bartz, 64, was murdered in her home at St. Bernard Convent on the night of October 31 or the morning of November 1.The convent is located in Navajo, on the New Mexico-Arizona state line near Gallup, New Mexico.

"Everyone is in shock in that area," Lee Lamb, a spokesperson for Diocese of Gallup, told The Farmington Daily Times.

Bartz came to the Navajo Nation in 1999. Prior to that, she served the Guadalupe Indian Mission near Cochiti Pueblo, Saint Joseph in Laguna Pueblo and the Saint Catherine Indian School in Santa Fe.
