McCain pushing Choctaw tribe to cooperate with probe

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is upset the Mississippi Band of Choctaws won't cooperate with his probe into Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, a staff investigator told The Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
McCain is upset about high fees that four tribes, including the Choctaws, paid to Abramoff's old firm. The tribe isn't cooperating by releasing information to his staff.
Choctaw Chief Phillip Martin is being pressured by the tribe's council to end the tribe's relationship with Abramoff. But he failed to show up to a council meeting on the matter, the paper reported.
Abramoff used to work for the Greenberg Traurig firm but left in a dispute over his tribal work. According to news reports, four tribes, including the Choctaws, paid $45 million to Abramoff and a close friend who did public relations work.
