Schumer to discuss N.Y. casino with BIA nominee

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he will meet with Bureau of Indian Affairs nominee Dave Anderseon on Tuesday to discuss opposition to the Seneca-Cayuga's bingo hall in New York.
The tribe is building the Class II facility on 229 acres of ancestral land. Based on court decisions, the land is Indian Country, the tribe contends.
Schumer and other New York officials say the tribe lost its rights in the state. He told
The Syracuse Post-Standard that he wants "the BIA to put something in place so this doesn't happen in New York state and all over the country."
The construction of the bingo hall is on hold pending resolution of a lawsuit. A decision is due in spring 2004.
