Wyandotte Nation moves on casino
THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 2002 The Wyandotte Nation is setting up a temporary casino in Kansas. The Oklahoma tribe moved trailers onto property it owns in downtown Kansas City. The land is held in trust as affirmed by Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb last month. And according to a gaming official at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the tribe is free to decide if it wants a casino pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed by the state and four Kansas tribes. The BIA official didn't say anything about an appropriations bill that said the property in question can't be used for gaming purposes. The tribe's move is seen as a ploy to get a casino elsewhere opened. Get the Story:
